Perfect Intonation Manual

Introduction

Back to Table of Contents

Perfect Intonation is a new software tool for music professionals and educators. It allows you to see the pitch you are singing (or playing) in real time. By comparing auditory and visual feedback, you can learn to sing target notes and songs faster and with greater accuracy.

General System Requirements

To use Perfect Intonation (TM), you need any recent Macintosh computer or PC running Windows, a microphone, and speakers (either built-in or external, though we recommend using headphones for best results). A standard PC headset, available at any computer or office store for $15 to $25, is perfectly adequate.

Note for Macintosh users

The microphone part of standard PC headsets will not work with most Macs without an adaptor, because the audio input jack on Macs is a "line-level" input, meaning that mics are not "loud" enough for that input. For Macs that include a built-in microphone (G4 and G5 iMacs, iBooks, and PowerBooks), you can use the built-in mic and a standard pair of stereo headphones. For Macs that do not include a built-in microphone, you will need either a USB microphone or headset, or a standard PC microphone and an adaptor such as the Griffin iMic.
