Music Resources for Perfect Intonation

MusicXML and MIDI

Perfect Intonation can open music in either the MusicXML or MIDI formats. However, MusicXML is preferred because it contains information on score and notation, while MIDI includes only simple playback information.

Drawbacks of MIDI music with PerfectIntonation

MIDI files are plentiful around the internet, and are easy to record with most electronic instruments. But because MIDI files only contain a list of instruments, notes, and play durations, Perfect Intonation cannot display a fully annotated score from a MIDI file. If you load MIDI songs, you will get a very simple display with only simple noteheads and the red piano-roll display of pitches. If you have a MIDI file that you would like to practice with, we recommend you first use Finale or Sibelius with Dolet to convert it into MusicXML format.

Where to get more MusicXML files

Downloading files on the net

There is a large selection of MusicXML files in public repositories around the web. We recommend Recordare LLC's list of MusicXML Sites for MusicXML Files, which is kept up-to-date with the latest repositories.

NOTE: Becaus Perfect Intonation is a new product and there are a number of imperfect implementations of MusicXML around the web, you may occasionally encounter a MusicXML file that it will not load, or will not load correctly. If so, please contact us right away and send us the file so that we can correct the problem.

Using your own music: Finale

If you work with your own score in Finale 2007 or later, you can export your music as MusicXML right from the File Menu, and load that file into Perfect Intonation

Using your own music: Sibelius

If you use Sibelius, you can export to MusicXML if you purchase the Dolet for Sibelius plugin from Recordare LLC.
